Shalimar Fields began operations in March 2007 in Monroe, Connecticut.   Its first goal is to provide an environment that promotes the safety, the well-being, and happiness of horses and riders.  Please read below the farm's description, or better, drop by for a visit and see by yourself! 

A Primary Consideration: the Footing.  Our Choice: Travel Right

Shalimar Fields is proud to offer the best footing available for both its indoor arena and its outdoor ring.  We selected Travel Right, prepared by Lawton Adams, for the soundness and happiness of our horses.

Travel Right is a dust-free footing, springy, very similar to natural turf.  It was used at the 2005 Syracuse Horse Sport Invitational and the Maclay Junior competition.  It was also chosen by Lendon Gray for her indoor ring, as well as dozens of other top dressage and jumper trainers.

Two Main Riding Venues: an Indoor Arena (150x70) and large Outdoor Ring (250x110) 

Our indoor is attached to one of the barn, which was an other consideration in selecting our footing: we needed a strictly non-dust footing, such as Travel Right.

Our outdoor is at the top of the property and offers a stunning vista to the New England’s beautiful countryside.

Two Barns with a total of 30 Stalls

Shalimar's brand new barn opened in August 2008.  It has 18 stalls and the following features:

• 12x12 and 12x14 stalls;
• All the stalls are outfitted with Soft Stall, a stall "mattress," thicker and springier than regular mats. This stall flooring is like a therapeutic bedding system for horses. It alleviates horses' joints, and helps prevent hock sores. For more information on Soft Stall, contact us;
• All the stalls have two windows, one in the front, and one in the back;
• The barn is very airy and light with excellent air circulation;
• The barn has radiant heating in the center aisle to prevent the pipes from freezing;
• The center aisle is covered with rubber paving, a soft and non-slippery flooring option;
• All stalls have automatic waterers; the waterers have individual gauges to check how much water the horses have drunk.
• Wash stall with hot and cold water;
• Large tackroom with full size lockers;
• Bathroom and changing room with shower.

Shalimar's other barn is attached to the indoor.  It has 12 stalls, a wash-stall with hot and cold water, a heated viewing room, heated tack-room, and a bathroom.   This attached barn is also outfitted with the Soft Stall mattress system.

Turnout Paddocks

At Shalimar, we try to provide as much turnout as our horses want to get.  We have both all-weather paddocks and grass fields.

Horse Treadmill

A good horse treadmill can be an excellent tool for your horse training. It helps strengthens the horse in a very correct way—the horse must stay straight.   It can also be very useful for anxious or “hot” horses and act as a “pacifier.”  

Our treadmill has a variable speed setting with a top speed of 7 mph. It is computer controlled with up to 9 different programs, which for example can give the belt an angle of up to 10° incline. It is very safe thanks in part to an adjustable photocell and a shock sensor which will ensure that the belt stops in case of an emergency.
